LAN@Kheng's I (30th Nov - 2nd Dec) in review

by Thomas @ Thursday, December 02, 2004

At the time of writing, the LAN party technically hasn't ended yet. BUT since things have already kind of chilled down alot, I thought its OK to review the entire event already.

Gaming
Actually, there was little networked gaming going on during the duration of the party. Probably was due to a lack of list of games that everyone was interested to try, quite alot of the serious gamer/tech mofos not being around (eg, justin, delon, zerobyte), & not everybody having the games installed beforehand. Most of the party ended up becoming more of a each-person-to-his-own-PC routine. We did manage to enjoy afew hours of intense NS on Day 2 though.

Computers Setup
We didn't have that many coms. Originally, we had kheng's PC + g33klap + boonlap + p3kbox = 4 systems. But p3kbox died halfway, so we were left with 3. Quite sad considering that with Kheng's 1500kbps net connection, a wireless network available + the LAN hub that p3k has = more slots for LAN connections, we could easily have supported a way lot more computers.

Entertainment (Fun, & the other usual nonsense)
Surprisingly fun. Played cards (Bluff!), talked alot of crap, watched a movie, & a whole lot more.

Logistics (Food/Drinks/Transport)
Excellently covered. We had no serious shortages of food/drinks, & Kheng was kind enough to provide transport.

Accommodations
We effectively have 2 rooms that we could use (Kheng's room + TV room) for gaming/games/MISC. There was plenty of space & enuth beds/mattresses/pillows around to ensure that people could get some rest when they needed to.

Miscellaneous
* Bryan + Sentinel were great additions to our company. We had a great time with you dudes around.
* BIG thanks & many sorrys to Kheng's parents for being so understanding & patient with our crap & excesses (noise, unintentional bad behaviour, etc)

Conclusion
Technically it wasn't much of a "LAN party", since there was little networked gaming going on.
The entire party was more of a social gathering than a gamer intense affair. NOT that I didn't have an extremely good time. I think by saying that I didn't really mind not having hardcore gaming the last 2 days, you probably can imagine how incredible the party was.

In my opinion, Kheng's place makes a great venue for future indoor gatherings. Whether for LAN parties or just casual chilling out sessions. For now though, p3k says cheers for the good times.

Should've given the p3kbox a burial or something.
